We stayed in Riomaggiore, the southernmost of the 5 towns of the Cinque Terre.

Just to get from town to our hotel room was 152 stairs. T counted. Come with us.

Just when you think you're done . . . yay!

Damn! There's another flight from the front door to our room.

Our first night we walked on the "Via dell Amore", the path between Riomaggiore and Manarola, a very flat, very paved path where lovers leave locks on every available post as a symbol of their affection.

The train station at Manarola.

The second day we took the train to Corneglia, the third town (the trail is closed for repairs between Manarola and Corneglia).
We climbed many, many stairs from the Corneglia train station, with about a hundred other tourists, up to the town of Corneglia.

From there, we hiked a long, steep, beautiful, HOT path to Vernazza.

The hike took us through olive groves . . .

And had amazing views of the coast.

When we arrived in Vernazza we had a wonderful meal of Trofi al pesto. Trofi is a small handmade pasta that looks a little like an unbaked croissant, but tiny. And pesto has its origins in Genoa, just up the coast from here. This is also the home of focaccia.
Cool grafitti in a focaccia shop in Vernazza:
Love the picture with the blue sky and blue sea separated by the yellow wing off the pink building.
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you . . . I was rather proud of that one myself.
