Certaldo- Day one and two

Theresa--

We arrived in Certaldo on May 7th after a morning of train travel. Getting our train tickets in Rome was the biggest hassle. Luckily we arrived several hours early so we could stand in line for over an hour to activate our Eurail passes and get reservations, but we made our train and then made our way to Tuscany. The trains were easy to use and ran like clockwork. Go figure.

Upon arrival we were met by Tom and Tristan at the train station and we picked up the makings for a lovely meal- foccacia, sun-dried tomatoes, fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, reduced balsamic, olive oil, prosciutto and salumi, as well as an amazing 2 euro bottle of prosecco.

The evening was spent looking out over the Tuscan hills and reading while we enjoyed the amazing weather. Day one was an early night for all of us as Tom and Tristan had just flown in from London and had gotten very little sleep. My feet welcomed the relatively tame day.

The next morning was spent truffle hunting and then enjoying the spoils of the activity (see earlier post). We then wandered the streets of Certaldo Alto ( the medieval city that sits on a hill overlooking the more modern city of Certaldo below).

As luck would have it there was a Mother's Day festival taking place in the city with vendors and a very cool percussion band that wondered through the streets of the small town.

Can you spot Tristan (hint she's in purple)?

  1. Wonderful! Beautiful photos of a beautiful place, and a beautiful feast. But 2Euro prosecco?! That's just not fair. Cook's isn't even that cheap.
